Since he was a little boy, Scott James has been around trucks. From learning to work on heavy equipment at a young age to his position as a service technician at Truckworx-Tuscaloosa, the trucking industry is most definitely where Scott belongs.
“Growing up in the small town of Fulton, Ala., my dad owned four trucks, so I have been around them all my life,” Scott said. “I remember helping my dad work on them when I was young and knowing that this is what I wanted to do for a career.”
When Truckworx-Thomasville first opened its doors nine years ago in 2013, Scott was employed as a service technician at Gulf Coast Truck and Equipment in Mobile, Ala. and received a phone call asking him to become the first service technician at the brand-new Thomasville location.
“After getting that phone call, I did a lot of research on Truckworx and decided that it was the type of place that I want to work and just went for it.”
According to Scott, that assumption definitely rang true.
“Truckworx has helped me develop my career by pushing me in ways I never imagined,” he said. “This is just a big family and an awesome company to work for. If you have faith in yourself and your abilities, Truckworx will take care of you.”
The idea of Truckworx being “a big family” came full circle about six months after Scott started at the company when his dad, Richard, came aboard with the team in Thomasville. Scott and Richard worked alongside each other for the next eight years.
Overall, there’s one major theme to Scott’s work: a sense of pride to play a part in an industry that is so important to our nation.
“I’m proud that I get to help the trucking industry and my coworkers every day,” Scott said. “I love the different challenges that each day presents. There’s not one project or job that I do that stands out to me; I just love what I get to do each day.”
Scott’s dedication and drive to serve the trucking community is not lost on members of the Truckworx family, either, including the one who originally hired him nine years ago.
“Scott was the first service technician we hired at our Thomasville location,” said COO and Vice President Mike Levering. “He was instrumental in our success and customer acceptance in Thomasville and after transferring to Tuscaloosa, he has proven to be a service leader at that location as well. Scott is very close to completing his master technician certification and continues to demonstrate his dedication to being the best he can be for Truckworx and the many customers he has served over the years. I am very thankful to know Scott and appreciate everything he has done for Truckworx and the Alabama trucking industry.”
Tuscaloosa store manager Andrew Hopkins says that Scott is irreplaceable, given how highly-skilled and committed he is to seeing success in his workplace.
“Scott is an extremely valuable member of our team, both internally and with our customers,” Hopkins said. “He consistently makes an effort to learn more and then shares that knowledge with our other technicians. While working with Scott, I have had the pleasure of watching him grow into a leader for our service team. He also puts our customers first and focuses on making sure they always have a positive experience with Truckworx.”
With his love for the trucking industry being a primary part of Scott’s life, one has to look to the beginning to truly see what, and who, contributed to his enthusiasm for the field.
“My dad is my role model,” said Scott. “He has inspired me to not only work on trucks, but also to be the best at everything I set out to do.”
Through doing what he loves and carrying out his family legacy each and every day, Scott lives out his passion and truly improves the trucking industry with each job he undertakes. Thank you, Scott, for being an invaluable member of the Truckworx family!
